Weatherfold guide
Answers to common questions.
Why does Weatherfold ask for my location?
To show the weather where you are. The app asks only for your approximate location and reads it while the app is open; it is rounded to about 100 m before the forecast is requested. You can also say no and choose a place by name. Widgets set to the device location can also follow you while the app is closed: if you choose “Allow all the time”, the app reads your approximate location in the background, once an hour and only while such a widget is on your home screen. Without this permission the widgets use the place from the last time you opened the app.
My widgets do not update.
Widgets refresh about once an hour when the phone is online. Open the app once to refresh them right away. If they still stay old, Android’s power saving may be holding the app back: in the app settings of Android, set battery use for Weatherfold to “Unrestricted”. On Samsung phones, also check Settings › Battery › Background usage limits and make sure Weatherfold is not on the list of sleeping or deep sleeping apps.
How do I change the look of the widgets?
In the app, open Settings › Look › Widgets. Choose automatic, light, dark or weather colours, then set the background opacity and the text colour. The preview shows the result at once; the widgets take the settings when you leave the page. The settings apply to all widgets. At low opacity, automatic text follows the brightness of your wallpaper.
What does Weatherfold Pro add?
Several places: save as many places as you like, switch between them and give each widget its own place. Pro is a one-time purchase of 1.99 EUR, not a subscription, and works on all your devices with the same Google account.
I bought Pro, but it is not unlocked.
Open Settings › Weatherfold Pro and tap “Restore purchase”, with an internet connection and the Google account you bought it with. If the payment is still pending, Pro unlocks once it is complete. On a new phone Pro comes back the same way, without buying it again.
Where does the weather come from?
From MET Norway, the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (api.met.no). Weatherfold has no server of its own. See the privacy policy for what is sent.
