Set up recording
Start recording
Tap “Start recording” in the diary. On the first start, the app explains why it needs your location. Allow precise location: approximate access alone cannot tell short walks from stops. Activity recognition and notifications are optional. Activity recognition notices departures sooner and assigns activities; notifications remind you after a restart.
Recording in the background
Once started, the app keeps recording with the screen off and the app closed. A quiet notification shows this. “Allow all the time” location access is not needed. Use “Stop recording” in the notification or in the app to stop; recording then stays off until you start it again.
After a restart or update
Open the app once to resume an enabled recording. If notifications are allowed, a notification reminds you. After a force stop, the app also records again only once you open it.
Location accuracy on the move
Under “Recording” in Settings, choose how precisely the app locates you on the move. “Saver” does not request GPS; away from Wi-Fi, parts of a route can be missing. “Balanced” uses GPS only when Wi-Fi and mobile network locations are too imprecise and is the recommended starting point. “Precise” requests GPS throughout every outing and uses more battery while moving.
Pause on Wi-Fi
Confirmed stillness on Wi-Fi reduces location requests. Under “Pause on Wi-Fi”, choose whether any Wi-Fi, only chosen networks or no Wi-Fi may pause recording. If you often use Wi-Fi on trains or mobile hotspots, pick “Chosen networks” and add home and work.
Correct entries
Open an outing to change its activity or delete it. You can undo a deletion for ten seconds. Use “Name this place” to give a stop a name such as Home or Work. The ≈ symbol marks estimated times.
Back up and change phones
Back up the diary to a file under “Your data” before changing phones or uninstalling. Android cloud backup is disabled. CSV and GPX exports are for other tools; to restore entries and places you need a diary backup.
