Lazy Moves privacy policy

Updated 16 October 2026. This policy covers the Android app Lazy Moves by Tearoom, previously named Lazy Movement Tracker. It does not cover other Tearoom apps.

In short

Your movement diary stays on your phone. There is no app account, no upload of your routes to Tearoom and no advertising or analytics service in the app. Data leaves the device only through optional features you turn on, the optional Google Play purchase, and services provided by Android and Google Play services.

What the app stores on your device

When you turn recording on, the app processes your location even when the screen is off or the app is not open. A persistent notification shows that recording is running and offers “Stop recording”.

The app stores location points with time, accuracy and available elevation and movement values. From these it builds outings, stops, duration and distance. User-given place names, their coordinates and radius are also stored locally. The home-screen widget reads daily totals from this diary. Optionally it stores activity recognition hints (for example walking, cycling, vehicle) and your own activity labels and settings. Wi-Fi connection information helps detect when you are stationary. To compare recording profiles, the app counts location requests and battery level per day, without coordinates.

Individual location observations are deleted automatically after three days. The diary remains until you delete entries, clear the app’s data in Android settings or uninstall the app. Android backup is disabled for the app.

Android and Google Play services

Location and activity recognition use Android and Google Play services. Google and your device manufacturer may process their own data under their terms, for example to improve location accuracy. Tearoom has no control over this. See Google’s privacy policy.

Optional online features

Street maps: The simple route outline is drawn locally from your points. When you open a street map or turn on automatic loading, the app loads map tiles from OpenStreetMap. The provider receives your IP address, the requested tiles and usual technical details, which can reveal the approximate area. Your route itself is not sent. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy. Automatic loading is off by default.

Addresses: Online address lookup is off by default. If you turn it on, the app sends start and destination coordinates of saved outings to the geocoding service Android provides on your device. The provider depends on your device. Addresses are cached locally and shown in outing overviews and details. Switching the option off stops new requests and hides cached addresses. A request already in progress may complete. Cached addresses remain in private storage until the associated data is deleted. No online elevation lookup is used.

Backup: Under “Your data” you can save the whole diary as a file at a place you choose and restore it. The file contains your location data; cloud storage providers apply their own terms. Restores are validated and imported in one database transaction. The previous diary is kept as a safety copy in private app storage until the next restore or Delete all data. This private safety copy can contain entries you subsequently delete from the current diary.

Exports: CSV contains entry times, activities, distances and named places. GPX contains location points and times. Exports are saved where you choose. Cloud storage providers apply their own terms. Exports do not replace a full diary backup.

Plus purchase

Lazy Moves Plus is an optional one-time purchase through Google Play. Google processes payment, your Google account and the receipt under its terms. The app receives the purchase state and a purchase token from Google Play, verifies the purchase on the device and stores locally only whether Plus is unlocked. Tearoom runs no server for this and receives no routes, coordinates or Wi-Fi information. Google’s Play Billing Library included for this sends technical diagnostics about the purchase flow (for example error codes and version details) to Google; these contain no diary data.

Health Connect

Health Connect sharing is optional, off by default and requires Plus. When enabled and authorised, the app writes completed walks, runs and bike rides with start and end times, activity and distance to Health Connect on the device. It does not share vehicle journeys, stops, routes, steps or calories and does not read other apps’ health records.

Apps you allow in Health Connect can read those records under their own privacy policies. Corrections and deletions in the diary are reconciled while sharing, Plus and access are available. Turning sharing off or losing access leaves records already shared. You can manage or delete those records in Health Connect. Tearoom receives no health records.

Permissions

Precise location access is needed to distinguish stops from movement. Approximate access alone does not start recording. Activity recognition is optional. Notifications show that recording is running. Network and Wi-Fi access support stationary detection and the optional online features. The app does not ask for “Allow all the time” location access: recording only runs after you start it in the app, with a visible notification. After a restart or app update, open the app to resume recording. A reminder is shown only when notifications are allowed. You can revoke any permission in Android, which may limit recording.

Deletion

Confirmed entry deletions are hidden immediately, with a ten-second undo window. Scheduled cleanup then removes the entry, its recorded points, raw observations in its time span and unreferenced address details. This process survives rotation and app restarts.

Settings > Your data > Delete all data removes the local diary, named places, raw observations, diagnostics, cache and the private pre-restore safety copy. Settings and the Plus unlock remain. When sharing is enabled and reachable, the app also attempts to remove previously shared Health Connect records. Check Health Connect for remaining records. You can also clear all app storage in Android settings or uninstall. Exported backups, exports and copies held by other apps or providers are not deleted. Android cloud backup and device-transfer backup are disabled.

Legal bases

Processing on your device provides the app features you use (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). You use optional online features at your choice (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) and can turn them off at any time. We handle email enquiries in order to answer them (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Your rights

You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, and to withdraw consent. Tearoom has no access to your locally stored diary and therefore cannot view or restore it. You can lodge a complaint with a data protection authority, for example the Bavarian Data Protection Authority (BayLDA), Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany.

Support

If you email apps@tearoom.one, we receive your message and any information you include and use it only to answer you. Please do not send location data or exports unless your question needs them.

Changes

If new online services, purchase features or synchronisation are added, this policy will be updated before the corresponding release.
