The network share
Share only the music folder
Create an SMB share for the library folder on your computer. Read-only access is sufficient for Gasamba. Where possible, use a dedicated user who can read only this share.
The shared folder must contain the XML and the music. A name such as “iTunes” is the share name, which is not necessarily the full file path.
If the connection fails
Check that the computer is awake, SMB sharing is enabled and the credentials grant access to this share. Entering an IP address manually can help when discovery cannot find the computer. Guest Wi-Fi networks may prevent devices from reaching each other.
Enter the share password only in the app setup. Do not include it in a support request.
Share name and exported paths
Use the source folder’s own name as the SMB share name, such as sharing an iTunes folder as iTunes. The music locations in the XML must contain that folder as a complete path segment. The XML must be named iTunes Music Library.xml at the share root. A host address can include a custom port. Use a trusted local network or VPN; do not expose SMB directly to the internet.
